A true "Monetian", having grown up in this area. In the early 1960's, Carol remembers riding in a truck with her family to watch the concrete being poured for the Smith Mountain Lake Dam. Her father had a trucking company at that time, and his trucks hauled the concrete from the railyard in Rocky Mount down Route 40 to Penhook.

Later, Carole entered the career of marketing and advertising, and worked in New York for a Woman's Magazine as Marketing Director. Missing the rural landscape and this area, she returned to help develop the advertising/marketing for Bernard's Landing Resort & Conference Center. Along the way, a Real Estate license was needed to help sell the townhouses, condos and Patio Homes, and other waterfront properties, so she chose that path.

In the mid-eighties, Carol was a co-founder, organizer of the Smith Mountain Lake Partnership. Later, was offered the position of Advertising Director of Atlantic Timber Company that was marketing primarily timber and rural properties on the East coast. She learned a great deal about how to sell farms and timberland working for this company.

In 1995, Carol returned to the lake area to help with the failing health of her mother, and continued with the developing & selling or rural properties. In 2003, Carol was hired as the Executive Director of the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce. Missing the challenges of Real Estate, she returned to the lake as a "Realtor" once again in 2005, at Bernard's Realty where she helped manage rentals and sold rural and lakefront properties.

Today Carol is very happy to be a part of the growing Lake & Land Realty team! At age 55, she has seen a great deal of change at Smith Mountain Lake, and has weathered many Real Estate climates. Carol believes that we are all fortunate to live and work in an area that by our own sheer energy and positive thinking, we help create our own destiny.

Mike is a Realtor, Licensed Real Estate Appraiser and life-long resident here at Smith Mountain Lake.

Mike grew up on a tobacco farm in Franklin County (which he calls God’s Country) that became waterfront property when Smith Mountain Lake was formed. Watching all of the changes through the years he saw the opportunities that were coming to his hometown. He obtained his real estate license and joined his wife, Sylvia, in selling real estate in 1989.

In 1990 Mike decided to expand his knowledge about the local real estate market by becoming a Licensed Real Estate Appraiser. Over the years he has become well-known and respected in the real estate market on and around Smith Mountain Lake.
